I am a solo artist, producer, writer.I record in my home studio on Alesis ADAT with Yamaha mixers and MXL Tube mics. I record drums tracks first then, guitar, keyboards, leads, vocal, bass.

Lately I have been recording drums, guitar, then VOCALS, then adding other tracks to see what kind of groove the vocal provides and add support.
I record tube mic into Yamaha board 16/8 with preamp/compressor "tube pac", then use an Aphex Aural exciter for vocals, and the Big Bottom setting for direct box bass balance and effects. I use a dbx 160 compressor in the final buss to the ADAT.

In mixing, I run into a teac reel to reel at 15in/sec. Then it's into my cubase for mastering.
I find despite using digital, mixing into the Teac reel to reel adds some warmth and brings out tonal qualities that add to the flavor.
I mix using some old "auratone" speakers and add effects as needed.
I am getting away from a lot of processing now and looking more for retro 60's, 70's type feel and sound and more raw live instrument sound.
My studio is pretty live and not alot of sound dampening.

I EQ depending on what I want in the mix, and try to layer the sound in a old Spector "Wall of Sound" feel. This song is about my trials and tribulations dealing with a failed marriage. It has the old organ sound and of course Vox amped guitars. The bass in direct box Yamaha into the aphex big bottom. Vocals pretty straight.
