Puremagnetik Tapes is pleased to announce its fourth release: Quetico, from sound artist and composer – and Puremagnetik founder – Micah Frank. It is a free (name your price) digital download until August 12th. It is also available on limited edition cassettes.
Quetico is a flagship recording for the label and lies close to the roots of Puremagnetik. Frank himself considers the album to be collection of “sound sculptures,” sonic objects in part assembled and in part sculpted from the basics of waveforms, timbres, and the concrete sound-objects of field recordings. (see more details in attached press release)

Grainstation-C | An Open Source Granular Workstation with Ambisonics
Frank has also published an open source performance workstation designed to build realtime, evolving sound sculptures – with optional ambisonics.
Harnessing the audio processing power of Csound, Grainstation-C seamlessly integrates with a Novation LaunchControl XL Mark 2 (easily modifiable for any other controller) and can processes 4 disk tracks and 3 live input streams.
You can save any state as a snapshot and morph to that snapshot at any point in a performance. It has 6 independent pitch delay lines, 6 switchable low pass and high pass filters, live audio looping and multiple granular processing controls including granular time-stretching, frame animation and granular pitch shifting.
Frank built the program to farm textures and granular structures for his latest album Quetico – out now on Puremagnetik Tapes. With this work he has recently been awarded a 2019 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in Music and Sound from The New York Foundation for the Arts.
